Hot Shot: Coastal Living room

*

beige blue green coastal style living room design

Design by J. Savage Gibson, image via My Home Ideas

Here is a beautiful beige living area accented with blue and green. Notice how the color scheme in this room is built up in three “layers”:

  • The Beige works as a warm neutral background.
  • Teal is layered on in furniture, area rug and accessories.
  • Green is limited to the accents.

Do you see it? The result is a harmonious and pulled together room. Apart from forming a great color relationship with blue, the green adds interest and pulls your eye throughout the room. How about you? Do you think in terms of layering when you decorate?

The Swan Fabric

*

HTHcute romantic bedroom light blue green with swan wallpaper (1)

This ultra feminine bedroom is based around a beautiful baby blue swan wallpaper. The same swan print, albeit in a different color scheme, is used on the upholstered screen. The decorator obviously knows a thing or two about mixing different patterns together. Notice how all the patterns in this bedroom are related in both theme and color.

To the right of the bed is a pretty vintage bench which is painted white and upholstered in Nina Campbell’s Orchard Blossom Fabric.

*

color palette blue gray green pink white

The color palette of this bedroom is all based on the pastel colors of the wallcovering. Both the wallpaper and the fabric come in other color schemes, below is an example of the more muted color version of the wallpaper, like the one used on the upholstered screen in the first image.

The fabric is Nina Campbell’s Swan Lake carried by Osbourne and Little. What do you think? Could you see yourself using this wallpaper in your home? If you could, what room would it be? I’m going with yes and bedroom or dining room =)

Eric Cohler’s Fabulous Home in NYSD

One of my favorite reads is the NYSD House section which features the homes of designers, decorators and artists. In the former feature we get a glimpse into interior designer Eric Cohler’s New York apartment, and I instantly fell in love with his bedroom:

*

modern gray bedroom with beige suede beadboard and colorful art

The rich gray wall color is contrasted with crisp white and deep black. The simple masculine furnishings are beautifully balanced with colorful feminine art.

*

Recognize the flower print to the right? It’s Andy Warhol’s Flowers of course! It’s not mentioned in his interview, but he does have a real Brillo Box, so I guess it’s authentic.

*

A tiny computer work station on the nightstand. I love how he layers everything!  Take a look at the rest of Eric’s home on New York Social Diary, which is accompanied b a great interview, and see what I mean when I say he layers everything ;)

Orange and Blue Bedroom Design

If you are passionate about interior design and decorating, chances are slim you haven’t already come across this wonderful bedroom designed by Kimberly Ayre:

I must admit the option of blue and white zebra curtains has never occured to me, but they do look pretty darn fabulous is this room! So many cute details in this photo, the fish lamp reminds me of one previously carried by Z Gallerie.

Here’s the talented designer herself, Kimberly, as the crowning jewel of her lovely creation. From the looks of it she knows a thing or two about personal style too ;) Notice that the wallpaper she used is not extended to the remaining walls of the bedroom, it functions as an accent wall behind the bed, with the rest of the room covered in seagrass wallcovering without the fan leaf print.

*

grasscloth wallpaper wall covering with blue fans

This is the wallpaper used in the bedroom, it’s Montague Grasscloth by Twenty2. First I thought the base of the wallpaper as orange, but it looks like it’s actually natural colored seagrass. Whatever it is, the room is spectacular, wouldn’t you agree?

Chic Blue and Pink Bedroom

This gorgeous blue and pink bedroom is part of  a Hamptons Showhouse sponsored by Traditional Home, and is designed by Elizabeth Bailey:

*

modern chic blue and pink bedroom

The bedroom is very luxurious and feminine. Don’t you just love the pops of pink? The floors have wall-to-wall carpeting, and still an area rug is layered atop. I love it!

*

colorpalette blue pink bedroom

The color palette of this bedroom consists of Farrow & Ball Skylight #205, creams and tans, black contrast and fun pops of pink. Visit Traditional Home for a complete resource list for this room.

Fresh flowers on the nightstand is a luxury I could get used to. Notice how the blue bed drapes are lined with pink and white zigzag fabric. What do you think about this bedroom?

Perspective Art

My blogging friend and personal wallpaper guru Åse of Interiorguiden featured some bookcases that left me intrigued:

*

shelf decor dimensions art

You see the skulls right? These are the works of British artist James Hopkins. He placed ordinary objects on a shelf, adding an extra “dimension” with positive and negative contrast. I’m not saying I’ll redecorate my shelf like this or anything, I just love the concept. Love it or hate it?

*

escher style chair cube

This stool also designed by James Hopkins is of cause based on Escher’s warped dimensions. It would be fun if we could see this from another angle but that would probably spoil the magic. I wasn’t even sure if it was “real” until I saw this:

Now it must be tedious work planning and setting this up. The top image shows you how this installation is set up, the bottom pic is what it looks like from the front. Amazing! Yay for creativity!

So how to you feel about adding another dimension to your bookshelves?

Sara is the designer behind this glorious bedroom. It’s light, bright and with pops of deep but fresh colors. Not to mention the fab wallpaper.
